WRT the idea that Notre Dame can take an ACC's spot in the bowl game


I took that as a reference to the ACC's deal where a bowl could select Notre Dame over an ACC under certain conditions.

WRT last year, yes the ACC did have an opportunity to show the "benefits" to being a full member in a conference for football. However, did it have any real impact given that Notre Dame has been pretty clear on its position regarding membership in a football conference from Day 1? I see last year as being no different than if I drove to Lamborghini Sterling so I could test drive a 2017 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster even though I knew ahead of time that I couldn't afford to buy it. The salesman may even let me actually test drive it in hopes it would be enough to get me to change my mind. Now I would be polite and take the salesman up on the offer. However, I already know there is nothing the salesman could say or do that would get me to change my mind about buying it.
